You can;t expect to have a job handed to you, especially in this business and more importantly in this economy. Anyone who is worth a salt knows that in this biz you have to hunt down jobs and bust ass to get them. they are never going to come looking for you (at least not the ones that are any good).

I completely agree. However, that being said as a program director I have hired from the "Situations Wanted" secition several times. So it is possible to get a gig this way. But it has to be just one of the many tools you use. Don't just post your ad and sit back and wait for the offers to roll in, because that probably won't happen - especially the way the biz is today. Make sure you are pursuing every other possible lead.

If you do post make sure that every 4 or 5 days you re-post your ad to get it at the top of the que. And freshen it up. There are so many very well written ads in the "Situations Wanted" catagory, almost always much better than the "Job Openings". Of course they have to be - you are selling yourself and trying to attract the attention of that one PD, OM or GM that has the perfect position just for you.

I know that when I posted an ad in the "Job Openings" catagory I could expect up to a hundred replys - even for a local board op position!

I'm doubting people are getting gigs from the Job Openings never mind getting jobs out of Situations Wanted. Yet useless humans of Jersey Shore are earning 30grand each, per episode. Circling the drain we are.

Just hope the draft passes by Congress then those of you 18-42 will have a job and then I'll have one of those openings left by you while you serve in the military! Then the GM's will have no excuse but to hire me and a few other veterans out there. A lot of us served this country so the LIberal GM's can discriminate against us! Prove to me you're EOE GM's! Grant an interview and I'll be happy!

Give it up dude, no radio operator owes you an interview, let alone a job just because you served in the military.

I served in the USAF long before you were born, and all I ever got for it (from the broadcast industry at least) was a wry look from programmers who wondered why the hell I enlisted. They were clueless then, they're clueless now.

If you want recognition for military service look for a government job where you get 5 points veteran's preference. That and $1.50 will get you a cheap "daily blend" at a crummy coffee bar.

Hey people,

I DID apply and recveived a letter from VOA yesterday so don't tell these people I didn't want this that's just plain untrue! I did apply and received a letter back which is more than what I've received from all of the emails, letters, and packages I've sent in the last year. I've done my part and I have to because I receive food stamps in Missouri as a single dad. I am required by state law to send at least two applications out I send about 15 a day! I even look overseas to countries like Dubai, Canada, Australia, and even Indonesia. So don't be misleading people and say I'm not making an effort because it's quite the opposite.
In fact, these employers don't get it that if I get hired they get a tax break for hiring me as a dislocated worker. Hey if they don't want the tax break it's their loss! And yes when you apply for an interview you are entitiled to a job interview or a letter acknowledging that they even received your resume that's the law here in Missouri.

I have landed 3 full-time AM and PM jobs over the last 10 years in small, medium and large markets (where I am now) from jobs posted here. I am blessed and maybe have a little talent too :-) Hang in there. Right now it's all about connections. Actually it's always been that way. Please also know that it's a numbers game. For every 10-15 doors you knock on you may get one who actually looks through the peep hole to see who it is. PD's are out of their minds busy right. One more thing. Believe in yourself. It's easy to get discouraged when NOTHING is happening. It took 11 months to land a gig when I was out of work. Do something...even if its tweaking your aircheck, friending someone on FB or listening to talent in other's good for your morale and will help you get to the next thing. I know I said one more thing but now I really mean it...enjoy this time in your life...enjoy this time with your family....thats what matters most. You won't think all of this is so very important when you are 88 and ready to cash out.
